EPMS — Electrical power monitoring system
EPMS watches medium- and low-voltage distribution, protection relays, breakers, generators and UPS. In FacilityOS it is strictly read-only for protection: it never opens or closes a breaker and never changes a protection setting.
IEC 61850
- The gateway has its own MMS client. It enables the IED's report control blocks (buffered reports resume after a disconnection, the IED's buffer filling the gap) and polls the rest; it reads breaker position (Dbpos), quality and the device's own time stamp.
- GOOSE subscription is available on Linux gateways (raw-socket permission needed). TLS is optional (port 3782).
- Read-only end to end: the client has no control service at all.
Sequence of events (SOE)
- Breaker, protection, ATS, generator, UPS and power-quality events ordered by each device's own time stamp (stored to the nanosecond, shown to the microsecond), answering the question "which breaker tripped first?".
- Each event shows its time source and clock status (PTP, NTP, SNTP, IRIG-B or GPS; synchronized or not, clock failure, accuracy). Events time-stamped by the gateway for polled protocols are clearly marked.
- Events are buffered through gateway outages, acknowledged only after the platform has stored them, append-only and kept for 400 days; CSV export is audited.
Fault records (COMTRADE)
- Upload COMTRADE files (IEEE C37.111-1999 / 2013; ASCII, BINARY, BINARY32, FLOAT32; cfg + dat, .cff or zip; up to 32 MB per record), stored and re-checked by SHA-256.
- The viewer offers zoom, cursors, channel selection, phasor diagram and single-cycle RMS, linked to the SOE events and alarms of the same device around the same time.
- Records are imported by upload; automatic retrieval from IEDs is not available yet.
Power quality
- THD, TDD, unbalance, flicker, frequency and voltage statistics, harmonic spectrum h2–h50, and sags, swells and interruptions on the ITIC curve, classified per IEEE 1159.
- Compliance verdict against IEEE 519-2022 or EN 50160 / IEC 61000-4-30. Evaluation parameters (bus voltage, Isc/IL) are set by an engineer and audited; assumed values are stated in the report.
- Mitigation effect: THDi, power factor and load before and after the harmonic filters, SVG / STATCOM or capacitor banks on the same bus.
Electrical assets and safety
- Breaker operation counts and contact wear from the SOE (ANSI C37.06 or the manufacturer's curve); notice at 80 %, maintenance due at 100 %.
- Protection settings management (read-only): upload the approved settings sheet (approved by a second manager) and the settings read from the relay (CSV or SEL text); every difference, missing and extra setting is listed. The platform never writes settings to a relay.
- Arc-flash labels (NFPA 70E): import the IEEE 1584-2018 study results and print labels per 130.5(H); above 40 cal/cm² the label shows DANGER; studies older than 5 years are flagged for review.
- Transformer loading and aging (IEEE C57.91 clause 7): top-oil rise, hot spot, aging acceleration factor, 30-day equivalent aging, loss of life and remaining life at the current rate.
